Santa Barbara, USA, 1999: The first step in Wriggeling Bottoms´ (WB) history was taken, as Haavard, Nils Gunnar, and Terje bought their first inline skates. However, a couple of years went by before they managed to persuade Mikael, Morten and Svein Aage into doing the same. In 2001, when the five of us living in Oslo, all were in possession of skates, it all started to evolve.
WB got its name in 2001, as the members decided to raise the ambition-level a few notches, and participate in "Around Bornholm on roller-skates" (100 km). Like any other club with a little bit of self-respect, we had to come up with a catchy name, and we went for Wriggeling Bottoms.
Most of us grew up in Brumunddal - a village just north of Hamar (Co-host for the winter olympics in 1994). We have been friends for many years, most of us since comprehensive school.
Our background in sports differ, but we all share the same dedicated competition-instinct and the joy of staying in shape. Skiing, soccer, icehockey and athletics are the main historical – and present – activities.
During winter, some of us are training and competing on the Valle Hovin ice-track in Oslo, mostly on Tuesdays.
As the number of activities is increasing, more people has joined the club. Our webmaster has played an important role in spreading the word about our existence. Even though WB is still a small club, we are not invisible – a fact that pleases us.
Until now, we have participated in competitions, using quite anonymous clothing. For the 2004-season, we are wearing brand new, yellow shirts with bold printing. We hope this will make some people turn their heads and say “Hey, there are the Norwegian Bottoms!”. Hopefully, our performance on the track will also improve, as the clothing makes us a bit obligated…
Finally, we would like to mention the two cheerleaders we possess. Jeanet and Rina - our female spice - contribute a lot on the sideline. During competitions, they are also in charge of the cameras, and immortalises our events, both on the track and the social events, that (of course) is a natural part of every competition/trip.
